Mountain bike tour suggestions

The cellar of the owner houses classic bikes such as an old Cromo Pinarello or one of the first Scott Carbon Fullies... Well, Gerri Fux fell in love with biking a long time ago and he therefore knows every stone in the Vinschgau Valley.

No matter if you need consulting, if you would like to hire a GPS device or tour upload, if you would like to participate in guided tours or reserve top bikes – Gerri will always be at your disposal for bike questions.

And if you need further information, we can arrange a meeting with Matze of vinschgauBIKE.

These are some of Gerri’s mountain bike suggestions:

Marble quarry of Covelano

We start in Vezzano and cross the industrial zone to reach the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path. We pass Covelano and reach Lasa, the famous marble village, after some 10 km.

We turn left into the Lasa valley before the village square and continue on our left hand side towards the Tarnell farms by crossing the Lasa stream right above the village.

The first metres on this asphalt road are steep, but won’t be a problem for trained bikers. The asphalt road turns into a forest road above the hamlet of Parnetz which pleasantly leads upwards to the marble road.

This marble road is the connecting road between the quarry of Covelano and the quarry of Lasa and was used for the transportation of heavy marble blocks. Now you can see marble everywhere: the subsoil is of marble and even the supporting walls are of marble.

We go upwards, passing the back, until we see our destination: the quarry of Covelano at 2,250 m. We take the last serpentines by passing the Knappenhtte hut and marvel at the large artificial caves.

We return by passing the Covelano mountain hut and continue until Covelano. Vezzano is only a stone's throw away from there.

Via Claudia Augusta cycle path

The Via Claudia Augusta cycle path stretches from Augsburg to Venice but the Vinschgau Valley between Resia and Merano is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts.

From the glacier to the vine is more than just a slogan. We start in Resia, pass the Resia and Muta lakes and then bike downhill to Burgusio, Clusio and Laudes – with the Ortles always in front of our eyes. We then continue to the historic town of Glorenza and discover the Vinschgau Valley by bike. In Vezzano, the cycle path leads us through the “apple valley” until Merano.

The Vinschgau taxi service transports your bikes to Resia and is also available for larger groups. If you start your tour in Merano and bike uphill to Resia, you make a tour of 55 km with an altitude difference of 1,000 metres.

Uina gorge

This extreme gorge, which was used by smugglers for the transportation of goods across the green frontier, has been in bikers' hands for many years by now.

The Uina gorge and Swiss mountain huts tour starts in Burgusio and takes us past the Marienberg Abbey to Slingia. We then cross the Slingia Pass to reach the Uina gorge in Switzerland.

We bike along the beautiful Engadin valley from Su En to Scuol and return back to Tubre by passing the S-charl valley and by crossing the Costaines pass.

Please note: Do not forget your identity card. There won’t be a customs officer at the Slingia Pass, but you might be asked for your identity card at your return.

Annaberg castle tour

This easy tour at the sun mountain is ideal for every season and every time of day. The tour starts directly behind our house at the crossroads.

The asphalt road is quite steep and demanding at the beginning and passes chestnut groves and vineyards. After having crossed the Fallerbach stream, the forest road becomes flatter and you go downwards to Annaberg Castle.

Continue on the forest road behind the castle until you cross hiking path no. 7 and follow it downhill until the so-called Annaberger Bden plateau where you continue on a trail leading to the suspension bridge and then to Coldrano. Pass Coldrano castle, go through the village of Coldrano and return on the provincial road to Vezzano.

This tour with its 12 km and an altitude difference of 600 meters is an ideal tour after your working day or perfect as an "introductory tour". Our guests can also make use of a GPS device.

Stelvio Pass

The Stelvio Pass is the king of all passes thanks to its 48 curves. It has been a popular destination for racing cyclists and mountain bikers as well as for motorcyclists and motorists of all kinds since 1875.

If you make this 27.4 km tour to the Stelvio Pass, the difference in altitude is about 1,875 metres between Prato and the Stelvio. The Stelvio Pass bike day (for racing cyclists and mountain bikers only) is organized every year. What don’t you participate as well?

Eisjoechl Pass

The Eisjoechl Pass is a real challenge. Biking to the Eisjoechl Pass without wheeling the bike is a challenge for some mountain bikers, while conquering the Eisjoechl Pass is similar to an aim of life for others. This tour is often made as a 2-day tour as you then have the time to enjoy the wonderful mountains of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park.

The tour starts in Stava/Naturno and takes us into Val Senales. Turn right and follow the sign for Val di Fosse until you reach the Vorderkaser farms. Continue on the forest road until you reach Eishof, passing Mitterkaser. After a rest or an overnight stay take the Karrenweg path to the head of the valley. The stony path pleasantly winds up to the Eisjoechl Pass.

The Stetinerhütte hut is situated directly behind the pass. The descent to Plan is technically demanding due to the many stony curves. A forest road leads from the Lazinser mountain hut to Plan.  You then continue on an asphalt road until S. Leonardo in the Passiria Valley and take the Passiria cycle path along the Passiria river to reach the spa town of Merano. Pass Lagundo and continue to Tel where you can take the cycle path to Naturno.
